I finally got a coat of paint on the track car this weekend. I shot the door panels, fenders and boot lid Saturday and the tub and bonnet Sunday. The picture is a little over exposed but it looks presentable. Now for the reassembly. (Don't mind the over spray on the dry rotted tires /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif)

A word of caution to the Rustoluem paint job folks:
I used Nason Selectprime primer and Dupont Centari acrylic enamel (single stage). The fenders on the car were pretty beat up so I used a couple spares I had. I had used some Rustoleum rusty metal primer as well as regualr paint in a few spots prior to the fenders where being stored. When I did the body work for this job I did not take them down to bare metal since this is just a track car. The primer scratch filler on different occasions lifted the Rustoleum. I had to sand the affected areas down to base and respray. If you plan on going the Rustoleum route as a temp fix before doing a regular paint job be prepared to take everything down to factory paint / primer / bare metal. You may find a paint system that is compatable but the one I used is generally pretty forgiving.

That's looking like a race car, Chris! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

That's an interesting development out of the Rustoleum paint job. Since Bugsy now has a redone hood, Doors, and Fenders a little late to turn back now. Stiil I don't see myself ever going to the expensive paint job route. Car isn't worth enough to spend morethan I've got into it to paint it. I'm happy to enjoy the fact that all parts of the car are green once again.

Heck- you could have left the car outside around here in Seattle for a while and the whole thing would soon be green (and slimy!)without any work at-all.

You're not gonna race on those wheels are ya?

No Tony, I have a new set of Hoosiers; just needed something to move it around on. Someone painted those rims maroon for some unknown reason. I figure they mike look like they serve and actual purpose if they have over spray on them.

By the way, the color is white even if it looks green in the photo.

We'll be there; driving Saturday and working Sunday. Both the Miata and this car are in similar states. It will all come together I hope. If you want to sell the 1.8 DOHC Escort motor let me know.

I meant the early Rostyle wheels - you are going to use something else so you don't damage them, I hope.

I'll swap you a set of regular Midget Rostyles for those....hehehehe

OK, now I know what you mean now. No I won't run those, I have a set of Chevy Cosworth Vega alloys (see attached) for it. Not much lighter than the steels but the steel Vega wheels are too soft for my liking. I'll use them as spares.

I know it isn't exactly the thread but could you post pics?

Thanks
