From time to time it is good to start a new thread.

Ok, I replaced the top jet chamber washers, copper, with soft alum ones. They were a bit thicker than the copper ones as well.

I no longer have any leaks seemingly.

Oh yea, one of those little round clips on the choke linkage finaly self destructed, replaced it with a nome made O ring made from a smallish peice cut from a very small rubber hose, shrug, not a critical item in any case, we will see.

Tomorrow morning as soon as it warms up a bit we are going to have the big test. Does it idle correctly? Does it leak when running? Surely would like to put all this carb nonsence behind me. I got seat bottems and a bonnet to install.

I think I now understand H1s. Here is the trick.

When you tighten the bottom nut that holds the jet chamber in place you actually put pressure on the top and bottom washer which makes the outer seal for the fuel chamber.

Use a thicker washer on the top, or two or three thin ones depending upon extent of the problem. That gives the worn threads and parts the ability to squeeze tighter the top and bottom washer gasket which is where the leaks occur. Now, if the washers are too thick you have effectively shortened the length of the jet tube so you must be very careful here. The neadle does have quite a long idle spot so a bit of fudgeing is ok it seems. The washer seal just needs to be tight enough to seal.

Front carb is now ok rear seeps just a bit after four hours so I am going to add one very thin washer at the top so I can take up a bit more slack. We will see tomorrow.

I really feel at this point that I have the carbs on the run. Time will tell. However, I will change to H2s when funding and such permits.
