Cold or not, Miss Agatha is in the process of carb adjustment, hehe. She has been down the street and back several times. Although it is a bit tough without a seat.

Idle is now down to 1500 and preaty well balanced but still rough. Have the idle screws all the way out, she wants to go.

If I can get this engine sorted out now I can get on to other things.

Jack:

Probably just needs a bit more tinkering, hopefully she has stopped hunting.

Patrick

She has stoped hunting, starts first pull even at 40 this morning. Have her down to about 1200 RPM now.

What the heck is the timeing, 8 degrees, darn if I can find it.

First stock engine I have had, last one was about 32 degrees.

Jack, according to my book, for the 948cc timing is 4* static and at 6* BTDC at 600RPM. Does that sound right? they say 8* is for the 1098cc

Thank you kindly, she seems happest at about 6 and 1000 RPM.

I think I may need new choke tubes, I can not get her to smooth out or any lower.

Did you have those carbs rebuilt, or did you refurbish them yourself? I'm wondering as I will need to get the HS2s I have worked on, and figured I'd be sending them out for a full going-over.

Did em my self but got bad choke tubes. Drew, if I was going to do it again I would send the carbs to Hap to rebuild. Not only are they preaty but with all those race cars under his belt I just suspect he knows what he is doing. In fact I would bet on it.

Here is what I have just done. I replaced both choke tubes with old ones I had, cleaned em up of course. Put em in and the engine is now smooth but rpm up about 1800. However it likes to go, weeeee does it go.

Now for my next trick I am going to lower the needles a bit and make sure the idle portion is all the way down in the tube. I think these old tubes are maybe worn and allowing too much fuel into the carbs. Hopefully this may just work

Boy has it smoothed out though.

If the needle trick works I will get a new set up from Joe.

More to follow me thinks.

That makes quite a difference, will order some new choke tubes from Joe.

Did the deed, new jets and corks and Joe agrees with what I have done that should solve the problem. Crosses fingers.

Then I can do a decent carb adjustment and get this show on the road.

Some seats and sundries and you're cruisin'...till the next li'l gremlin, hehehe!! One of the things I love about LBC owners is they are SUCH problem-solvers!!!

Mike, we have no choice in the matter! It's either solve problems or walk./bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

THAT'S why we, as a group, are so good at it!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Necessity is the mother of invention!

How about this. Got to pull the dash, blew a fuse. Something not right or I did not get tight. Oh well, good job. Fuel gage, windsheld wipers, heater, turn signals and I bet I know where it is. hehe.

Nice that you worked it out, Jack.

Beep beep Bugeye coming through!

I been thinking again, do not and I repeat do not start a restoration unless you have lots of time and patance. You must be prepaired to take two steps forward and one back again and again.

Some of these steps are the learning process and some are the poor parts we get at times. In any case it could drive a person to drink. I'll have a beer please.

However, that all said I got my first waves today and I don't even have the bonnet on. hehe.

Woops, guess I need to align the front end, along with the dash while I am waiting for parts. Part of the interior is due tomorrow or friday and carb parts next week, maybe wed.

Guess I best get moveing, going to be out of town for about 10 days starting the 13th. Going to check which resort hotel we want to use for the 2008 get together. I think all three under consideration would work but will also see who will give us the best prices and such.

Let us know on the best hotel, Jack. We're planning to go still, if all goes well.

Patience is always a good thing with these little cars. They have lessons to teach us (especially we new guys) but we have to learn to listen.

To further clarify, the jet hole in the tubes is off center, no telling what else.

Off center jets sounds like a likely source for some poor running!!
