Progress Update

Well I've been wrestling w/ my restoration all summer and feel like I've made some good progress. Following all the discussions on the forum certainly gives good insight to problems both anticipated and not! Got my shocks from Peter C, had the MC resleeved by Sierra, Whited Post did the calipers and Monday should be the ship date from Classic Tube, but they have been the "weakest link" so far!! Upgraded to disc front brakes and added a sway bar.
The car has not moved since 1990 so I plan to make a rolling chassis before I work on the body. My biggest surprise has been on the restoration of the leaf springs. I was sure they were Junk, but took Jack's advice and spent the weekend tearing them apart and rebuilding. Found some graphite based paint used in "sliding" applications at my local Tractor Supply store. Anyone have any history/luck with this paint? I've attached some before & after pix to show "how I spent my summer vacation"!!!

Re: Progress Update

I spent time cleaning up my springs and repainting them, only to discover they were too weak. It was very disappointing. Hope you have better luck. From the photos, I think mine were worse.

Re: Progress Update

Good progress! I like the yellow steering arm, too.

Re: Progress Update

I'm hoping that's not the case!! The right side was much worse then the left?? The springs both match w/ number marking but I suspect the left was replaced some time ago. What did you do with the spring to spring interface? Paint and add an itereleaf material?
Missed a front end pix.

Re: Progress Update

Nice work!

Re: Progress Update

Nice work. Now when putting things back together put the left spring on the right side, etc.

Re: Progress Update

Why, to redistribute wear?
The right side suspension (front/rear)in general seemed to have more wear then the left side. Is that typical or just a quirk?

Re: Progress Update

The spring on the drivers side should be just a bit weaker from years of the weight of the driver compressing it.
