Progress On My 1965 Sprite (update)

Progress is being made towards completing my 1965 Sprite. After finishing the interior, I pulled the seats out to make it easier to complete the under dash work. I'm replacing all the mechanical gauges with electronic units from Speed Hut. The wiring harness is from Rebel in NC and is working out quite nice. Everything is wired except the engine bay and under dash for the new instruments. The project came from the PO with a Moss interior kit. WHEW! What a mess. Nothing fit especially the carpet kit. The footwell parts are short by about twelve inches; the drive shaft piece is six inches short, and I had to modify the transmission carpet to get it to fit using velcro.

The rear axle assembly goes back in this week. A shout out goes to Steve Christian at Ol' Phartz Parts for a great job rebuilding the 4.22 rear axle assembly. I have a 3.9 differential if the 4.22 doesn't work. I have a spare 3.9 but it needs a complete rebuild. Found it in a weed (not that kind of weed) field.

The new rear axle and new front hubs will allow me to mount VDO eight spokes (black spokes, polished rim) with 165 R65 13 Achilles tires.

Here are some other particulars:
1275 engine; high compression head; 1.5:1 rocker arms; Pertronix ignition; aluminum radiator; oil cooler; 3/4" front sway bar; Delrin bushings; front suspension lowered 3/4"; rear suspension lowered one inch. Datsun 210 5-speed from Rivergate.

The body is 1965 Sprite with a front tilting 1959 steel Bugeye bonnet. Black, chopped grill insert from Bugeye Guys.

The final concept is a Sprite Spyder, if the factory had produced such a model. The windshield/windscreen will be chopped approximately two inches; eliminate the vent windows and roll up windows; install single loop roll bar behind the driver seat with an upholstered head rest. All factory original parts will be retained in case a future owner wants to put the car back to original condition including a completely new top and tonneau cover.

Very nice looking Sprite. I have similar wheels on my Bugeye so of course I like em.
