Rebuilt the carbs with Joes kit this morning. No leaks so far. Nice stuff and I did notice a bit of a difference.

The new inside springs are stainless and just a tad longer so the choke seals fit a bit tighter but is a different material and fits smoother as well.

The bottom cork gasket is kinda rubber and cork, tough stuff and is a bit thicker than the other.

Stainless cotter keys provided.

Has been about 30 min or so and no leaks and I have worked the chokes etc etc.

Figured out my one choke return spring, it was weak, put on a spare I had and all seems fine now.

Now I am afraid to crank it..... Really.

Maybe this afternoon I will try. Before it started fine but did not want to keep running without lots of choke again and again. We'll see.

Joe will sell any kind of an SU carb kit or individual parts you may need. May I suggest he is as far as I am concerned the only source. Do it right the first time and save some work. His bits are not expensive.

Let's hear her run, Jack.Your first progress for the new year.

Not today, wife says no muffler, no run today or tomorrow, sigh.

Jack, come on now, would I steer you wrong /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Noop. When Hap speaks, it is time to listen.

No leaks.

Now if it will just run properly. Hehe. However, I think the two problems were connected.

Jack, you've got to get a muffler man!

I just realized one thing about this new year (your "Retired USAF" jogged my mind) On my birthday this year the USAF and I will be celebrating the same birthday heh, heh!!

Niceville needs a little "shakin' up"... Set 'mum' off on a grocery run and light off Miss A's engine! After all, ya GOTTA check for the leaks under load. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

<again: I miss the :devil: icon!>

Yea, I know. I still need about 500 bucks worth of parts plus interior and chrome plating. Glad that Christmas and trip to MI are over even if I did get to meet Jeff.

I am flat out of things to do and parts to do them. Think maybe I will work on the pasanger door lock a bit. Looks like it is in a bit far, big deal.
