Frequently, I think that it would be better to farm out all the work. But truthfully, I enjoy working on the car as much as driving it. And when I do drive it much of the fun is the satisfaction of knowing how much of the work I did myself.

I don't think anything less of someone that restores a car using a checkbook (or credit card) because we all find enjoyment in different things. However, I like to encourage people to try things outside of their comfort zone. It keeps the mind sharper and gives you more experiences to draw upon.
 
BTW, we've really hijacked this thread.

Suspension, plumbing, wiper system, wiring, drive train, the rest. No real gotchas that I can think of.

Defrost vents, washer nozzles, and wiper rack before wiring... and maybe the rearview mirror before the dash.

Remember, I've got 18 to work on! Plus my Jaguar, 2 VW's, 380SL, Norton, lawnmower........
 
You would not beleive the work to be accomplished in his garage. I could spend many happy months just catching him up a bit.
 
& I really think I enjoy the work as much as the driving.....don't know whatever possessed me to own so many cars though!

My 21-month old grandson will have his hands full as he's in my will to inherit them all!

C'mon ... I tried to get it back on track.

And really... the only place where there are gotchas is behind the dash. These cars are so minimalistic that it is scary.

And so you did. Thanks for that effort.

When I removed the dash from the former (totalled) Whitephrog, I left the wiring harness, which was all but new and correctly cloth covered, attached to the dash stuff such as gauges, lights, switches, etc. Mistake or not?
