TR2/3/3A Problems with new rubber handbrake boot.

Afternoon, I am working in the cockpit area of my car and find that my rubber boot (new some years ago) does not fit well at all. Has any one else had a problem with rubber boot for the hand brake? I am working on a 1961 post 60,000 car. I think I got the boot from TRF but I also bought parts from MOSS. The basic problem is that the standup part of the boot that bolts to the tranny cover is too small. Bolt holes do not align. I might have posted on this subject before but I have been away form it all for some time so please bare with me on this. I'm very close to putting it on the road and hate to be stopped by the old dreaded "waiting for parts issue". So any thoughts will be greatly appreciated, I have just ordered a new boot form Moss and it should be here WED. Might solve the problem.

Any how your thoughts and comments greatly appreciated.

Seems like I always have to stretch that boot a bit, to get the screws started. I usually find that it works best to put the screws through the plate and rubber first, then try to find the holes. Note that it screws into clips that can also move around to some extent.

I forget the size offhand, but I use SS screws with oversize pan heads, so they almost fill the space on the plate. Seems to help keep the plate from bending as much.

I'll second Randall's motion about having to do a lot of stretching. It was a real wrestling match for me too. The trick for me was to get the mounting plates lined up correctly first so the holes in the plates were aligned with the holes in the floor and side of the transmission cover. I had to add an new hole in the forward inboard part of the horizontal plate. Once I had the floor plate and boot section stretched in place and screwed down, I stretched the vertical section in place. I have some photos I'll be happy to pass along if you think they would be of any help.

Pictures would be great. I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one to have problems with the rubber boot.

Thanks, Dick

Here are a couple of photos of the boot and mounting plates...
