Printer question

I have an older HP Deskjet D1520 printer and want to use it on a windows 7 machine. For the install disk only goes up to Vista and won't install in a w-7 machine. I don't want to pay 30 bucks for a program to get one driver. Is there a way I can get a W-7 driver on the cheap or free? PJ

Don't be too surprised if the printer doesn't have the same functionality in Win7 as it had in the earlier OS.

I had a workhorse HP 842C when I went to Win7 from XP and the printer went from fully customizable to dirt basic with the new driver. It ran, but that was about all it did.

Paul- I have an older 7210 All in 1 and have switched to 7 a little over a year ago.
The web will do it but have constant problems with the thing not printing and have to unplug it or pull the USB all the time.
It also won't print correctly for my Quick books which uses a different format or something

I had to finally dump a very nice HP laser (that was 10 years old). It was tough with Win7 but my engineer son got it work (with weird drivers - because HP wouldn't support it), but with Win8 there was no solution. Got a new HP LaserJet 1606 and like it a lot (though even it required one call to HP).

No, B&W, Don. We have another printer for color (that we don't use).

One really annoying thing about printers these days (last few years) is they no longer provide a cable (serial, UBS or anything). Of course some are wireless. Ours was set up on our home network.

Just hooked up a new Epson XP 310 wireless printer scanner to the wifes Dell, now if I can get it to work I'm in! The copier works great, but I'm doing something wrong, as I can't get it to print from the computer yet. Such is life. Funny though, it's wireless but has a USB cable hook up also. Ill figure it out sooner or later. :encouragement: PJ

Spent an hour researching my Quickbooks problem with my printer and eventually got it fixed.
Turned out I had to have a microsoft printer installed that I deleted while cleaning out garbage.
It's called an XPS printer spooler.
I guess the PDF in Quickbooks needs to to convertor some such reasoning.
At least it's fixed

I just reread the instructions and found out that I shouldn't have hooked up the USB cable until the software was completely installed in the computer, could be my problem. Might have to reinstall it, The right way! PJ

Read the instructions
Not a guy thing to do.
You did right,Paul

Just hooked up a new Epson XP 310 wireless printer scanner to the wifes Dell,

Dell has .....ummmm...... issues with printers. We purchased a new Dell computer and printer last year. We ALWAYS have problems with the printer not being found by the computer. My in-laws gave us a cheap HP printer and it hasn't missed a lick. Go figure.:wall:

I took her older HP 1500 series printer to use with my lap top as it's very small and I don't have the space on my desk for a large set up like she does. It works perfectly on both machines and the print quality is pretty decent. The new Epson is not only wireless but has a hard wire hook up also and that is what threw me when her computer refused to recognize it. I haven't had the time to fool with it the past few days but when I do, I'll post what the results are later. PJ
