Interesting numbers came up when I ran all years of the TR6 through Price Guide. Since the TR6 is often classified as "Early" (69-73) and "Late" (74-76) in many car shows, I noticed that any early TR6 tends to have more value than a late TR6. Essentially being the same car, I wonder if the federally mandated pollution add-ons affects the value.

What are people now paying for a TR6, without going to extreme?

Someone asked me the other day what he should pay for a TR6 and I was hard-pressed to tell him anymore. I know the values have risen but what are they worth now?

I told the bloke that any running TR6 with essentially no rust (that is a rarity) but in need of a total restoration should start at $5000. Was I off base?

Just for your interest, but I am afraid of no help to you, the earlier TR6s are worth more in the UK for two reasons. Firstly, they had a different cam and supposedly produced 150bhp as opposed to the later cars, which were 125bhp. Also here a car built before 1973 is exempt from paying the annual road tax of ÂŁ175 a year.
A good TR6 would be around ÂŁ10,000, which at the current exchange rate is more than $20,000. In concourse condition they can fetch twice that. A rough, but road-legal one here would start from about ÂŁ3,500 ($7,000). We also have the choice of cars that have lived their lives in the UK, which have fuel injection but can be very rusty. Alternatively many people are chosing cars that are re-imported from the USA. Often UK cars are rebuilt using "rust-free" USA bodies and chassis, with the UK right hand drive and fuel injection.

That sounds low to me if the sale is widely advertised or an eBay auction. Good deals and distress sales occur but generally I would expect what you describe would be a couple of thou more. Just thinking of local sales a nice TR6 driver might be had for around $12K.
 
The going price is not enough to cover my costs....
 
There was an early 70's TR6 advertised in the local paper last week. Said to be in good condition it was listed at $4500.00... a good buy for sure.
