TR2/3/3A Prestik Substitute

Just about got axles out of my Lockheed equipped 56 TR3. Service Bulletin suggests use of Prestik to help seal the hubs/splines. Couple of suggestions for sealant have been made in earlier threads ... RTV Black and Permatex #3. Was looking at the Permatex site just now and see that there is a gear-oil specific sealant/gasket maker. Wondering if that might be a good/alternative choice to the other suggestions. I have to buy some sealant anyway, so just want to pick up the product most likely to be suitable. Pros and cons of the different options? Cheers, Mike
 
I've never seen the stuff but from the description, it's called a "temporary" adhesive, seemingly more like dum dum. Seems like a strange choice and I can only guess at why the engineers didn't suggest Wellseal. The two goos that you suggest seem more like the latter although RTV black was not available at that time. I can't think of any reason not to use either of your suggestions although I don't know much about the variables except perhaps that Wellseal might require a more thorough de-greasing before application.
Wikipedia says Blu Tack is similar and made by the same company, Bostick. I think I'd use Prestick or Blu Tack myself, but mostly in deference to Triumph engineers.

I like that Permatex red sticky sealer it comes with a brush in a can at most stores, but I have never done exactly what you are doing.
