President Bush Shares our Joy

When his father was President, Louise and I were in our 1958 TR3A in and around Kennebunkport, Maine. We decided to drive along the coast road. About 2 miles along, we were stopped and there were about five cars stopped in front of us. Each in turn moved on and then it was our turn at the front of the line. It was a checkpoint. It seems that George senior was at home that week. We were instructed not to speed, not to stop, no photos, and I can't remember the rest. The agent wearing a beige windbreaker (secret service, CIA, FBI or what) was about 40 - 45 years old and was very stern about it all. As he finished his instructions he said, "Now you may proceed - and that's one nice TR3A. I have a TR6 that I use regularly back in Washington DC."

Hmmm, I didn't know Triumphs were ever a "joy".

I love 'em, but they're not necessarily a joy. :cryin:
 
I lived in Austin and belonged to the Hill Country Triumph Club (1995 to 2003). It was discussed at one of our meetings that GW once owned a TR-6.

btw, my '70 TR-6 was the only car I ever regretted selling. Tried buying it back with no luck, yet!

Does that explain why they like oil so much?

& why they breakdown?.........
 
President "W" Bush's first car was a white TR4. A little known bit of history I picked up on a documentary of him on PBS. In fact they described it as a modest car. Ha! the nerve of the narrator.
 
If he can drive an F-106 I suspect three pedals and a shifter ain't much of a challenge...
