I have pretty much stripped the TR250, and now have started to put it back together, I have the brakes and wiring harness back in, next step is the motor and tranny install (I am doing a frame on body resto) is there anything else I should do before I put the motor in, the driveshaft, front and rear suspension etc is all done as well, and engine compartment painted.

Is there anything else I am fergetting that would be easier better access to put in with the motor out than in?

Thanks, Greg

Greg, you will need as much space as you can get to slide the engine tranny in there. However having said that I would ask if your steering system is in. Thats about the only thing that I can think of that would be a pain installing with the engine in.

Good luck, Tinkerman

Greg: maybe 10 years ago, I blew the head gasket on the TR250. I decided to pull the engine and have it rebuilt. I had very good success removing and replacing the engine-transmission combination. It's not hard at all - just take it slow and you need to use a "load tilter" (don't know the correct terminology. Here's a couple of pics.

First step in an engine install at my shop is to Fill the Cooler or Mini Fridge in my case.

If you have an overdrive, keep an eye on the solenoid. The bracket is fairly fragile with the weight of an engine and tranny behind it.

I do have an O/D, appreciate the tip. And I forgot to mention that the steering gear is in place.

The last motor I pulled was from a big healey, which has a much smaller hole (hood or bonnet opening) than the TR250, so I am not too worried about getting it in, although I do seem to remember there was some futzing with getting it past the steering rack on the way out.

Do I drink the beer before during or after the install?

Do a drink the beer before during or after the install?

answer: YES

It also helps to not have the accelerator linkage installed in front of the battery box.
