Does anyone else do a ritual walk around, thorough inspection of their old Brit car before a drive?
I know how unlikely it is to have a pool of brake fluid in the footwell, a gallon of oil mysteriously gushed out the sump.
Just wondered if anyone else was as paranoid as me. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif
 
Well, once, I did have a gallon of oil in the
passenger footwell. That little tiny plastic
oil pipe was not connected to the oil pressure
gauge. It filled the footwell rather quickly.

With Crypty, I ALWAYS make sure I have the trunk
filled to brim with spare parts and many, many tools.
Also the Bentley Blue, both TRF parts books and two
jacks. And I make sure Wendy has her cell phone turned
on and she knows where I am headed.

Now, I check to make sure all 4 wheels are still
connected to the car.

I guess I'm an optimist. Local trips are a "grab-n-growl". Overland journeys are a bit more "planned".
 
I check my MG's just like I check my other cars - & drive & treat them the same! However, because they sit longer than my vanilla cars, I do check their fluid levels more frequently.

Do you pack the trunk of your 'vanilla' car with parts?
No?
Then why do it for the MG?
Don't you trust it?

Cell phone & credit card works when any car - vanilla or MG - breaks down!

Exactly, usually just check the oil and away I go.


Do need to make a periodical checklist for the car though
 
Fair point Tony, Steve's once-a-week plan should suffice.
It's not I don't trust the car, bear in mind who did the majority of the work....
With 150+ miles under it since all that work, and no symptoms, I guess I can relax.
 
I was really nervous about the reliability of my car for a while, but a big 500+ mile road trip helped ease my worries some bit. But what really made me feel better was when my car actually did break down, the towing coverage from my Hagerty plan made it so painless that I am much more comfortable now. Although, had I not had cell service, it might have been a bit more stressful
 
The engine and electrical system in my TR6 are both
at long last fairly reliable.

Now the mechanical components are falling off or
breaking apart. BLARGH- it's back to 5 mile radius
trips for me. (Once I get the car repaired and off jack
stands, that is.)
