Years ago I read an article that involved utilizing a vacuum gauge to time an engine. I have forgotten the particulars of the article, and was wondering if any of the Healey owners could give me specifics on timing my Healey with a vacuum gauge.

I do remember that the article indicated that the timing should not be set at the highest vacuum reading, rather at a lower point.

Anyone had experience in this arena?????

Ray, Using a vacuum guage to time is close but not by any means rocket science. Set you 'idle' (or have your helper keep the engine steady)to 4000 rpm and then turn your distributor to achieve the highest "steady" vacuum reading. That will set your total advance curve at it's highest pratical setting. Depending on the condition of the engine that should be in the 32 to 37 degree's of advance. Using a programmable timing light would be more accurate.
