Potential Owner - no knowledge. Seeking advice!

Hello all,

My name is Ash. I'm 22... work/go to school in Peoria, AZ.

Recently, the auto tranny in my 2000 VW Jetta TDI started acting up and looks like it may need replacing. The cost is such that I'm faced with the decision of repairing/keeping it or selling it at a reduced price.

I've mainly been researching Mazda Protege5's but I stumbled across this on Craigslist:

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/75620562.html

This certainly looks like an enthusiast's car. I don't have much of a mechanic's history but perhaps its not too late to learn.

I could very well be in this for the wrong reasons. Feel free to tell me. If anyone has any good online guides to link me to, I'd gladly read them.

If I go see this car, what should I look for?

-Ash

Re: Potential Owner - no knowledge. Seeking advice

I agree, I am 25 and just recently bought a Sprite to be my daily driver when its not raining and it by far the most car for that kind of money.

Also if you haven't seen it in person yet it is much smaller than you can imagine. It smaller than a miata, but it is big in interior space, I have found it still very comfortable in size with two people in it.

It is also easy to maintain and find parts due to the huge aftermarket from Moss, Victoria British, etc. It would be a great car for you to start doing your own work on.

ahhh bummer - apparently it sold. I'll have to keep looking. It looked great in the photo!

Meanwhile, I'll hang out around here and see if I can't obtain some knowledge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome Ash........this is by far the best place to be for information, and yes, it's a great fun little car for the money. Not as reliable as a modern, but easy to turn wrenches on.

Ash,
the Sprites and Midgets are fantastic little cars.
Simply put together and easily fixed.
Stay away from any rust and you should have more fun than humanly possible with your clothes on.
Too bad it sold, that hard top looked nice.
Plenty out there though.
Addiction awaits you, Ash. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
