Positive to Negative Conversion

Gentlemen:

The generator died on my 1960 BE. We put an older model generator in the car. The replacement generator came from a negative ground vehicle. Here is my question:

- We want to convert the car to negative ground. Should I re-polarize the generator?

Mike Pennell

Regardless of what ground the car is, when you put any new/different generator in a car it would be prudent to re-polarize it. However, do you have an answer to your other thread about tach drive conversion?

Read your other query too. I think your up a creek as to converting one. Hopefully you can still find someone on the North American continent that can rewind yours. The company I used to have do that is out of business. I'm sure someone knows a place that still dose it and dose quality work. Do'nt throw the tach drive away!! ( I have a couple needing rewind too). KA

Repolarize to positive, UNLESS you're doing the conversion NOW. Hold a short piece of wire on the "F" terminal and lightly brush the other end across the "+" terminal of the battery... do it a couple of times..you'll see a little spark. Don't hold it on, just lightly brush. ..
