Posidrive screw confusion

Well, I know Healeys have posidrive screws that hold the relays and such onto the firewall. These are machine thread type.
Are the screws that hold on the wiring harness posidrive also? Those are sheet metal style screws, but are they posidrive? Don't look so on my car, nor on a BT7 I looked at this morning.
Anyone can clear this up for me?

Many thanks!

Dave - very cool article. I saved and printed it.

But......are the screws for the wiring harness pozidriv? or phillips?

Hi Peter,

Congratulations on the concours silver!

What Dave was pointing out is that you can tell the difference between the two by careful observation (if you have original fasteners to look at, of course). I just went and looked at my original harness ('62 BJ7) that still has the clips and some of the screws still attached. The machine screws that hold the harness clips to the firewall are Posidrive but the sheet metal screws are not.

Cheers,
John

Hi, John!.......
Thanks! We are going for the Gold, soon!

Yeah, that's what I thought about the pozidriv screws......machine screws only, not the sheet metal type.
Cheers,

Hi Peter,
Congrats! It sounds like you got "screwed" out of the gold. So to speak. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Greg ........ HA !!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)......

British Car specialists in CA have some, as does Sports & Classics in CT......other standard Healey suppliers probably have some, too!

peter mi amigo, ive also wondered about the differance between these two fasteners its always been obvious that common phillips scew drivers do not drive the others as well, but let me ask you,is this an area that was criticaly judged at the concours?and if you still need or lust after my original glass, perhaps we can work something out.see you soon.

Guess what, gang. GM switched over to pozi-drive screws in many applications about 10 years ago. That elusive fastener may be as far away as your local GM dealership.
Incidentally, I was working in engineering development at GM, and midway through the restoration of a '67 Triumph GT6, when I made this discovery, much to my pleasant surprise!

Peter,

To further add to the confusion ...

I was mistaken on identifying the machine screws for the harness and firewall component fasteners on my car (early BJ7) as Pozidriv. The head markings are not radial (Pozidriv) but the little arc markings between the crosspoint slots. These are shown as Phillips (alt) on page 183 of the Anderson/Moment book. Perhaps yours being a later BJ7 had the Pozidriv heads but just wanted to correct my earlier statement.

Cheers,
John

Yeah, Anthony, perhaps.......hummmmmm....we are putting back in the side window glass and vent window glass, but not the windscreen, at this point.
Jeff - that is very cool! I basically found out the same thing when talking to the Phillips Screw Company, who has jobbers who manufacture the Pozidriv screws.
John - Ours does have the Pozidrive heads on the firewall, I thought those were the little "arc" markings between the drive slots, and, Anthony, yes, maximum points were deducted for our lack of proper screws, both on the firewall, wiring harness, other places, and interior. As someone else said, "We were screwed", but so be it. The screws are correct now. We'll see what the next set of judges think about the quality of the restoration at the AHSTC Encounter meet in Valley Forge, PA, August 10 -14.
John - do you have your interior trimmed out?
I am looking for the proper way to end off the furlex behind the seats. There is a chrome hoop thingy that I am not positive where to place.

Peter,

Check the illustrations in the Anderson/Moment book page 183 for what the screw heads look like with "arc" and "radial lines". My car has both types used in different areas.

The Chrome clip for the door seals attaches to the interior quarter panel to hold the end of the door seal. The clip point is where the quarter panel changes direction to go straight back. There is a good picture of this on page 174 of the Anderson/Moment book.

Cheers,
John

Thanks!
