portable garages

Country flag
Offline
I have friend looking for a portable garage. I had one a while back- but it didnt take the weather in this corner of the country very well. I have seen some that appear to be a bit more sturdy. Does anyone have experience with a portable garage? recommendations? The one we are looking for has a rounded top, Quonset hut type? if you know what i mean.

TIA
Mark

Get in touch with Kim deBourbon...she's an officer with NAMGBR....she's had a portable garage at her house for several years...one of those metal framed with some type tarp.....& she's up in your neck of the woods with lots of snow.....I know one of the things she did was lay a plastic tarp on the ground where she was placing the temporary garage & then put plywood over the tarp so that she had a barrier under her car before the tent went up.

Thanks, Steve...couldn't remember where it was.

I knew a guy who needed a garage for a couple of years for project. He bought 2 metal shipping containers, shoved them together, cut out the inside walls leaving enough of a flange for bolts, thorough in a floor. Cut a couple of holes for windows, caulked it up, replaced the doors, voilĂ , a garage for about $5000.

When looking for the portable garages round here it's important to see if it has a "snow rating" otherwise it aint gonna make it.
Another idea is to get an army surplus 20 man tent. Strong as anything, and you can park 2-3 (maybe even 4)LBCs in it. They'll last several years set up perminantly.

Well, Kim's temporary garage is in Delaware Water Gap, PA & its kept the snow off her car for several years now.....& its a Harbor Freight unit...but, she spent some time & thought on the erection.

Google "shelters of new england", they make good portable garages. I had one, it was very durable and very strong with tubular aluminum frame.

Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than building a bricks-and-mortar garage.

Biggest problem with the "tent": wifey did NOT like the looks of it in front of the house! :cryin:

Thanx all! some good info.
