Started working on this 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S sedan back in early January. Latest improvements are completely overhauling the brake system, replacing engine mounts, rear axle boot, brake booster rebuild, etc. Basically trying to get everything to work as designed, and look like a "50 year old car that's been cared for".

Each step of the way, I try to do some clean up work.

Here's the engine bay when I started in January:

Sometimes it's one step forward, one step back. But I haven't completely wrecked it yet!

Hi Nial -

Yep, the adventure is still ahead, but with no fixed lift-off date. I need to feel the car is safe and reliable before heading from Atlantic to Pacific. Just call me overly concerned, I guess.

I'll be doing some day- or weekend-trips over the summer, then maybe a weeklong "does it hold together" junket.

It's really comfortable to drive, and (now that I've got the brakes to release ...) has more power than I expected for a 3000+ pound car. Even with that torque converter clutch system.

Right now I'm thinking spring of 2011. But who knows!
