MGB Poll: MGB Front Spoiler?

Taking an idea from the show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”

I’d like to use one of my “three life lines” and poll the audience (BFC) for their suggestions for my new front spoiler.

It is one of those Special Tuning Front Spoilers that Moss Motors sells for about $90 and I went with it because it looks a little more aggressive than the LE type.

Currently the plan is to keep the stock rubber bumper, but I might at some point in the future go with one of the fiberglass replacement bumpers (front & rear). I was thinking of painting it black but I’d like to get the forum’s input?

Thanks,

Just a suggestion bret,
how about u get rid of the rubber bumpers, whack on some sebrings front and rear. or better yet, do a chrome bumper conversion.
Just my two cents /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers mate /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I'm curious to see how this poll turns out. I currently have the LE spoiler attached to my white '80 B. I purchased the Moss special tuning spoiler for the same reason as you. I was planning on painting it flat black to blend in with the bumper. On a BRG car,,,, it would be another tough decision.

Thanks Jarrod,

Well, I seriously thought about a Chrome bumper conversion but I’m not a big fan of any of the conversions I’ve seen thus far. The modern interior with the chrome bumper just didn’t look right to me.

I’ve actually seen a few rather “snobbish” chrome bumper owners; snub these even more so than they would if they left the rubber bumper alone. With a look of someone who drank a cup of sour milk they’d say in a rather distasteful way; “it ain’t stock” /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif then turn up their nose and walk away.

So I think if I did the chrome bumper conversion I would want to do a complete make over to avoid that kind of scornful response. But all of that would be a lot of money. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

So if I was to take such a leap I feel that the Sebring kit be the better of the two options. But that ain’t going to happen for a while yet.

I'm all for semi-gloss or flat black, especially since you mention that this may be just an interum addition to the car. Given that you would like to keep the snob'ish remarks to a minimum this would seem to be the best course of action. Just browsing through images (google for MGB LE), I was unable to find an example of an '80 LE with the spoiler color matched to the body.

If this were the 'glass bumpers with integrated front spoiler and possibly the rear bumper with the relocated license plate, then I'd have them painted to match the car.

Just my 2cents

Bret, it's your car. Don't worry about the snobs. Personally I prefer the looks of the chrome bumpers but that doesn't really matter at all! I do think the replacement units from morespeed look nice and it would save you a ton of weight. Those rubber bumpers are a terrible design regardless of how they look on the car.

Just an idea.

I did this a while ago. But had some legality problems with driving it without the bumper... shame coz i really liked it like this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I agree with ICESWH. Blending the spoiler in with the bumper makes the size of the bumper less noticable.

Going with a pre rubber bumper suspention kit helps too.

About the worst B's I've seen are the ones with a CB conversion - but with the stock RB suspension. Makes it look like it's ready for some off-road adventure...

I think the semi-gloss black will blend with the bumper best. I'd use the Duplicolor bumper paint - after I repainted my rear bumper with it, I painted the front valance as well. I never liked the green above, black in the middle, green below look. Especially since my valance is a little bent up anyway - the black helps make it invisible...

Great idea, frankly I hadn't thought about that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Tough choice with the moss spoiler. The stock spoiler I would say a semi gloss black but the moss one seems to be more prominent and with the BRG I would go ahead and paint it BRG.

I can't wait to switch over to the morspeed bumpers. I think it shaves about 85 pounds off the car.

just curious... after looking at the Morspeed bumpers on Team Liebre's site what the heck holds the bumpers on the car? Do they use the chrome bumper irons? or are they screwed into the sheet metal?

To be honest I dont know. I'm assuming the front bolts to the same spots as the fairing would. The front end bumper mounts are cut the same as the crome bumper conversion. Not sure on the rear.
