plastic bugyeye front end

Offline
hi ladys and gents, im usually banging around the "healey" forum as many of you know, what brings me here is that i have a very dear friend thats a retired airline pilot a great guy unfortunately in failing health, he wants to put a fiberglass front end on his 1959 bug eye if its the last thing he does literally, ive never met a person who loved his car more, id like to help him find one for a reasonable price i plan to prep, paint and install it for him for free hes been telling me about one that doesnt look like an original but rather more "rounded" in contour and takes 5" motor cycle lights, if thats to expensive he will go with the more traditional version, so whos got the best deal? any help here would be most appreciated, thanks, a7777 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

He is referring to the Walker Bonnet at the Speedwell Web site. Very cool, but relatively $$.

Try Sports and Classics, they are near you and I got a good deal on one from them, some decades ago.

gb1, yes they are very near me, however ive been trying to do business with them for too many years, and have with much regret recommended other people to them, my friend asked john at "sports and classics" to get him one (plastic front end) and have it painted then installed over a year ago seems john is busy doing the majority of his business with overseas customers for bigger $ then he can selling to u.s. clients, i.e. i gave him a set (4) shocks to have rebuilt from an original bn4 id asked him to return the exact ones i gave him since they were very clean and theyd never been rebuilt and none of the housings etc, were torn up, he assured me hed do that, i secretly marked them, a little over a year past and after having to embarrass myself haunting him about it he gave me back only the front set rebuild and not by the outfit he told me would do them they are not the originals i gave him, another year and a half has gone by and still no rear shocks, i called him yesterday in order to speak with a young mechanic that works for/with him in order to discus a project wed be talking about, i asked if he would transfer my call to this young gentleman who is just down stairs within moderate shouting distance i say shouting distance because john refuses to have/pay for a contemporary phone system or p.a. and i was told "well if ya want to speak to him youll just have to come down here" i could go on about this outfits inefficiency however in an effort to keep my blood pressure from reaching the "stroke" level ill cease expounding on johns business practices or the lack there of, so if you think your having a problem with moss motors or any of the other mail order types well ya really dont know yet what "----" is but thanks for your consideration and response. those of us foreign auto enthusiasts in the area and other locals now "affectionately" refer to him as "the large lethargic slug" , /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

jlaird, fancy meeting you here, ah yah you got a "bug eye" nice, as long as my shocks dont go out to a place whos name has anything to do with a "fruit" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

LOL, yep, my Healey is just a bit smaller than yours is all.

Can't comment on the 'glass you are asking about but as a customer for other items (race related) I can tell you Rod (Spridgetech) is an up front and honest person. He does about anything within reason to ensure his customers are happy and return to do business again and again.

I can suggest you contact Rod and ask for a list of references/previous purchasers of the piece you are interested in, then ask them.

One potential owner I can think of would be Peter Morton. He had a 'glass front end on his wife's Bugeye that I'm fairly sure he purchased from Rod. You can find Peter's email address via his website at https://www.nobudgetracing.com.

Best wishes,

Tim

I've got a glass bonnet from Rod, and it's a quality piece.
And, as Rod lives 10 minutes from me, no shipping charges to bother with! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
