Planing a Jaguar cylinder head

I am hoping someone can help me with this machining issue.

I have a MK9 (3.8) head that has been planed and with no record of how much material was removed.

Four questions;

- does anyone have a machine shop reference giving detailed critical dimensions for a Jag 3.8 head and if so?

- what was the thickness of the original finished 3.8 head casting?

- how do you measure the thickness of the finished casting?

- what is minimum acceptable thickness after planing or how much material can be removed?

Any help will be appreciated.

I have only planed a couple 3.4 and a 3.8 head. Pretty much trusted the machine shop. Then I checked piston to valve clearance before installing, after adjusting valves. Don't know the specific clearance or shaving, just know I checked piston clearance and only bought recessed pistons on a 3.4. There are different thicknesses of head gaskets. The timing cover has to be shaved to fit the planed head, which can be remedied by head gasket. You might lay head on block and check how much needs to be taken off timing cover, for an answer.

Hi, surely the only time the timing cover would have to be shaved is if the surface of the block is shaved not the head?

Covering the bases. Cannot see what he has or what was done.
