TR2/3/3A Placing the differential on the frame

Placing the differential on the frame, I got the TR2 frame painted red, but it looks more orange in the pictures. I have not put the differential on the frame because I have not rebuilt it, yet and have actually never done much to a differential. The gears look good, so I will probably only replace the seals and axle bearings. Anyways I thought I would put the differential on the frame un-rebuilt and use the frame as a way to hold it in place while I replace the axle bearings and seals. Is that not such a good idea? I am I making things more difficult? Well any thoughts are appreciated.

Personally I would rebuild the axle off the frame. You've got a nice new paint job and you might chip the paint. Once you get the axle all rebuild then mount it on the frame with the springs and shocks. It's WAY easier to put all that on while the body is off... trust me. I just had to re-do my springs and shocks with the body on and it wasn't nearly as fun when I was rebuilding the frame! LOL!

Your frame looks nice. The red is very striking. There is something to be said for holding the diff securely with the frame. The down side would be having to bend over to work on it.
 
I worked on mine while it was on a work bench. As CJD states working bent over is a bit taxing.
