PL 700's - more tripod troubles

Hello,
In an early post, I mentioned how TRF sold out of their tripod headlights the same day I received the email. It all worked out for me as I was able to get an original used set for less on Ebay from an estate sale. One of the bulbs was burned out when I got them, so I figured TRF would certainly have extra bulbs for sale since they were selling the tripods to begin with....wrong. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone did not seem to know what I was talking about, but he was patient, took the time to find some halogens he thought might work, and said I could return them if they did not fit. Well, they don't fit. So, I guess to make a long story short, for those of you who have tripods, where do you get replacement bulbs from? If you have the part number and source that would be great. I am dying to get these on my car.
Kevin

I received two H-4 Halogen bulbs that came with my Tripods from TRF. I did go to a local Pep Boys and bought the replacement 55-60 watt for the H-4, just to have a spare.

Andy,

That may be why the TRF bulbs don't fit. If they sent him, what they sent me for the replacements, it may a problem.

My Pl 700's are original. You're right, Andrew, they did come with the incandesent bulbs. I was more than happy to get more of the same. Since TRF was out of the bulbs they originally advertised with the reproductions, and since TRF seem to think the H4's would work, I thought I would give it a try. The H4's are close, but lack the round part at the base needed for the clamps to work. Any other suggestions?
Kevin

I guess that from looking at the specs posted below and hearing what you're saying about the difference, it must be in the base type. If you can find what the original Type A base was, maybe you can cross it over at this site:

OOPS They're in Australia, but maybe you can use the drawings for reference.

How about here?

Lucas catalog here:

Lastly, according to this, the 392 series 60/40 Watt is the 417 replacement:

Henry's has the description also.

Wow, Paul! Thanks for all the information. I checked out all of the websites you posted - it was very helpful. I have already sent out a number of emails. The site that looked the most promising was the Australian website. They basically said they have a hologen with an equivalent wattage for the tripods with 100 percent more light given off. They do have a store that sells their bulbs in the US. I'll repost for other that may want to switch to halogens for their tripods when they email me back.
Thanks again, Kevin
