I have a question; The infamous green book says to install the pistons with the " split in the piston faces away from the cam". My piston do not have a split they are solid. Does anyone have any ideas? Skip
 
If your pistons are perfectly symetrical it shouldn't matter. If as on many pistons which have a slight pin offset, the piston should be installed with the pin offset toward the thrust side of the cylinder. Sometimes this offset is very small & precision measuring is needed to determine it. The thrust side of the cylinder would be the RH side if the engine turns CW as viewed from the front. Actually left hand of car side.

Thanks Dave ;I talked to some folks today who rebuild A/H engines and they told me that the slotted pistons were of the old style that was used in the early engines. All I need to be concerned with is the rod to crankpin offset and thats common to most all engines. Thanks Skip
