Saw a gold one,'72 or '73,in really nice shape
(for a Pinto). It's strange to see one of those in good
shape anymore.

For several years we had a 72 Wagon, 2000 with automatic. Wife really liked it, but time to move up to something bigger, got the inlaws Fairmont wagon (squire) with 302 and air.
Pinto went to a friend, got t-boned by a Mercedes driver who thought stop signs did not apply to the rich and famous.
He drove it for another year, bent sideways, steered funny, but ran fine.
Good cars, far beter than their comptition (Vagrants)

Sister got one for her HS graduation .
Did the circle of the lower 48 in it.
No a/c
Bloody hot in OK

You said Pinto, I thought of this:

My dad bought one of my sisters a new one for graduation. I didn't think it was a bad little car. She never had a problem with it. My dad had a problem though, he had three more daughters! Ever grow up in a house with 5 females? You don't want too. My dad and I never had a vote in the house. PJ

Came very close to having a Pinto "California cruiser" wagon. My wife's grandma was going to give me hers. it had some rust issues.. Looking back I wish I had had a place to tuck it away till later. It was a truly hideous factory production car, silver on top, black on bottom, split with purple and yellow stripes. bright red interior, and those little bubble windows on the sides.
Wife said it felt like riding in a coffin in the back seat because it was a 2 door panel wagon with only those little bubble windows in the back.
It was soooo ugly it was cool.

One of the best cars I ever had was a 75 Mercury Bobcat wagon. I had one size larger tires all the way around, Went where you pointed the nose even in the wintertime, and held all my carpentry tools.

How about a Pinto Pangra wagon? Seen at a fall car show in our area...

And the same guy owns this custom-built Pinto pickup...

As compared to what? An LBC?
What killed them was lack of maintenance. They ran so god, and were so reliable in 2.0 and 2.3L configuration, nobody even bothered to change the oil.
I have changed more 2.3L camshafts and followers, precisely due to lack of maintenance......
Never seen one rusted out to the point of non-driveability.
