Pimp my Six

I'm going into my 3rd year with my 1972 TR6 daily driver.

This car has been great but it's looking kind of shabby. The paint job was poor when I got it, and it ain't getting any better.

Since this is a driver, I don't care about keeping it 'correct' and all that.

Does anyone have any pictures or pointers to TR6s with custom bodywork?

Does anyone know of a supplier of parts like custom flared fenders, etc?

Thanks.

Sideways!

Here's an interesting completely stock TR6 that the
owners didn't like the existing paint job.

They decided to install polished aluminum body panels
that never need painting. I kinda like it. Might give
you some ideas for your own car. Looks pretty straight
forward to me. You can pick up the racing windshields
at Moss Motors. Bayamon Aluminum and Sheet Metal migh
be a source for the body parts.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I think I'd go with a single piece windshield.
A cleaner look and easier to find proper wiper blades.

Well, it seems no one has any leads or links to non-stock TR6 bodywork ideas. I can't see spending the time and money to repaint it - only to have it look like every other TR6.
So now I'm thinking of putting it up on eBay along with it's factory hardtop and looking for a new project.

That's because there really are not any kits out there. You might be able to find some flared fiberglass fenders but they wouldn't be good for a street car. There really isn't a 'market' for aftermarket airdams, splitters, wings etc for TR6's. If you want to do it then you have to do it yourself. If you really want to express some individuality, there are plenty of things for you to do without totally changing the face of your TR6.

Paint it a totally non stock color. Use mirrors from another car. Paint the bumpers body color, remove the bumpers, black out the chrome etc... etc...

These two TR6's for example, I can pretty confidently say are the only two TR6's painted these colors (most likely in the world). Mine is the Green one, AquaMarine Frost actually. Look closely at the bluish purple car and you'll notice that the mirrors are generic GM units that they used for twenty some years. They look fairly unique on a TR6. Non-factory colors on these cars can really set them apart and you won't look like every other one out there. Just some thoughts for you.

If it's that French blue one, it looks pretty restorable for someone.

Coincidentally there is another blue one on Ebay that looks as if it has custom body mods: e.g. the rear valence and light clusters:

Yeah, you got to feel for that guy though. I don't think he knew too much about TR6's when he bought it.

When a seller starts his ad with something like this, I get a little leary.

"I just got on british cars .com and there are a few of these for sale from a builder in rough undrivable shape for $6,500 up to a unrestored one in excellent shape for $16,000 and most are around $10,000

You can check it out for yourself
!"

What do you suppose those doors weigh?

I like the aqua marine frost color - it looks great. I think you could paint these cars any color and they would wear it well.
