TR6 Pictures of TR6 dash refinished front + back

what kind of wood and finish did you use?

Is that walnut?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it took a little longer
because I had to contract Vanna White to come in to hold the
dash in place while the photos were taken.

Could not afford her in full dress, swinging arms gracefully accross the face of the dash, so settled for the
less expensive contract of partial body; still shot, don't-
-show-her-face-cause-she-has-no-makeup shot.

This dash was the original wood. Hellmsman polyurethan
from a can by Minwax. Stained with Dark Walnut Minwax
stain (Gel) type. The penetrating stain didn't work down
into the wood.

its looks very nice

I did mine with the same color but I didnt use the gel & mine is a solid piece of black walnut.......

(I know cracks blah blah blah...)

No, sir. I will not go there. Only time will tell, and
I hope for you, that all is well.

I've seen and admired your work as well; but just cause we're here, I'm gonna look again. Thanks for your help.

I did the rosewood dash in my 1990 Peterbilt with Minwax poly and it worked very well...

Very very nice.

Whoa dude!!!!!

Looking good is an understatement.

I love the color and who did your gauges?

Thanks, Paul. The gauges were in pretty good shape.
I cleaned them with a wire brush wheel and a Dremel.
The black detail on the gauges were "renewed" using a
black felt marker with the standard 45 degree cut on the
end. It is not paint, I know, but the eye will not catch
the difference. Very easy to do. I heard putting
clear fingernail polish over this after it dries pretty
good will protect the finish. I tried a piece and didn't
care for it, so went with how it looks right out of the
pen.

Hope to learn more from you,

Sincerely,

Sharpie??

Sharpie, Marks-a-Lot, any of those types will work; but
the key is to use a chisel pointed tip, the wide tip
cut at about a 45 degree angle. Have a new fresh one
that lays out a lot of ink. A steady hand laying the
tip right on the inside edge. You can put some kind
of a car polish on a towel and turn the gauge face down
onto it and sliding it back and forth you can buff the nice, polished edge when it removes the ink. Excess ink
will rub/wash off with just a reasonable amount of
rubbing or soap or ... you name a cleaning substance if
done soon. A rather forgiving process.

Sorry, Tinster, but you could tell me what software
you use in displaying your pictures. Love those
colored arrows and the like. Great displays.

Thanks to all for the kind words.
