Pictures - Niagara Falls without water

More depressing to me than neat. As a child I wanted to see Niagara Falls more than just about anything. When I learned that the falls were basically a sculpted scene with a big faucet controlling it, I lost all interest in ever going there. I'd still give anything to see it in its natural state.

I've seen a lot in my many years of traveling, some in various parts of the world and some that are not tourist attractions, but I have to admit I've seen the Niagara falls three times and they were breath taking all three times. The sense of power is outstanding! Those and the Grand Canyon are my favorite places in North America that nature has created. And strangely to some, diving in the ocean off the coast of Cuba is another favorite place of mine. PJ

My bride and I visited Niagra Falls in late June of 1969 and were startled to see the falls with no water. I didn't know ahead of time that it was happening.

I took hundreds of the same pictures and many from the Canadian side with a long telephoto.

I had been there before with water (1950) and since (2004) with water. Water is the better scene.

Oh... That marriage didn't last either. Must have been a bad omen.

steve, i can understand your disappointment, kinda like when a kid realises that santa, kinda looked, sounded, and smelt like grandpa. but ive been to niagra falls 5 times, 50's, 70's, 80's, 90,s then again 2005 and i still get a kick out of it. :yesnod:

Would this be a bad time to mention, I live less than two hours from the Falls?
My wife and I go at least three times a year to see the Falls.
It is magnificent at Christmas with the water frozen and the light show on it.
I never tire of that place.
If any of you folks get to the Falls, look me up.
I'll do my best to show you around some.

Niagara Falls 1911

This is one of the very positive aspects of the internet... being
able to share amazing things like this from the past. Enjoy the
chance to view these marvels from almost a century ago.

These are amazing pictures almost 100 years old.
Can you imagine walking on Niagara falls ?
The Year is 1911 and the photo is of Niagara Falls

Cheers
Mark
