Got this from Charley Key who owns British Cars of America. We need to replace the tires...any suggestions on which ones to use? It sat for about 3 years with only occasional startups.

Oh, you done GOOD!

Is that color "Mirage"? Very few of them around!

That is Mirage....good show!!

Remember our local car club meeting the 1st Tuesday of the month at the Old Greenbriar (not the one out on the interstate)...look forward to seeing it there if not sooner.

I'd look at Kumho's line of tires!

& I especially like those GT flashes up by the top of the rear wing - I'm adding them to my '74-1/2 RB GT.

Very Nice!

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Thanks for the good words. My wife really liked the color. It is Mirage. Also, I believe it had Sabrinas. Knowing so little about buying an MG, now that they/we are "classics", we thought she might be a good one, to fix up. There is definitely work to be done. There are some bubbles popping up in several places, hood, fender, and some rust along panels below the doors. We had Dave Sanders Imports (Anderson, SC) referred by the BHive, put it on a rack, check underneath, oil change, lube, change some gas lines. He confirmed it looked pretty sound. We thought so, but with the rust starting to show, we had concerns. Engine sounds good, shifts tight, no real play in steering. Needs exhaust pipe and a real close inspection to change whats old and worn. Gas mileage is about 10mpg right now. Charley said he put a brand new MGB engine in it around 2000. He drove it to shows and used it in some rallys. Also did alot of sheet metal work and restored the original paint color.

Any suggestions? Rust, mechanical, etc. Also, restoring the original color Mirage, and good shops for body and mechanical work in No Alabama/So Tennessee?

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Rust is like an iceberg.

What you can see is just the tip. Get it fixed before it comes crashing through.
I've only owned 3 GT's - this has been my experience.
These cars really do rust from the inside out.

For your mileage: look at your carburettor's, your timing, your distributor and cap and wires, of course check your plugs - what color are they - black & oily?

No good mechanical shops but a great body shop...Shaneyfelt Paing in Owens Crossroads.256-725-3121...owner is Rickey.....he's done several cars for me & has my custom bodied V8 MGB right now (along with several other classic & antique cars he's working on).....he also did Jack Laird's "Miss Agatha" Bugeye.

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Will call Shaneyfelt Paing this next week. Any comments on the 1971 mgb gt listed on ebay, Matthews Parts, Birmingham?

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Its Matthews....call me & I'll explain!

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

For any mechanical work contact Dr. Ben Pender of Klassic Autos in Madison Al.
Ben only works on older and vintage European Autos and has four MGB GT's himself. (256) 489-9560

Ben's good but slo-o-o-o-w.

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Yes he is slow and has alot of business for one person, but Ben goes for quality rather than quantity at his shop.

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

I called him last week and he is on vacation until Aug 4th. Any other names come to mind within a hour's drive of Huntsville/Madison? Thanks, george

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Same here.

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

Thanks. We look forward to coming. It works out real well for us, it's just a couple of miles from our shop, and we get lunch from there often. George

Re: St. Louis MGB-GT

George,
If the weather is nice we all show up early and kick tires in the parking lot.
