Any thoughts, advice, things to ask; note or remember
when I go to pick up my engine tommorrow?

What should I be concerned about?

What's the best way to pack it to move it?

How should I store it when I get it home?

Might have to do a little here and there on putting it
back together.

Thanks.

You should drive it to Escalon, put it in my garage and forget where you left it!

In reality I would make sure you get everything you took to the shop, put an engine stand mount on the block at the shop. Strap it to a pallet and forklift it on to your pickup/trailer (unless you have an engine dolly) . When you get home use your engine hoist to pull it out of the truck/trailer and put it on your stand. Paint the block ASAP.

Say, Paul, thanks. So I want to paint engine with
POR enamel with foam brush. I've prepped the surface
but I don't know what not to paint.
It seems the sides, certainly, can be painted; but, the front and rear of the block is still "naked" and I don't know if putting any paint there is a good idea,
at this point. Any suggestions?

Best rule(S) of thumb....

If it is exposed to oil constantly, (I.e. internal surface) keep it bare.

If it is a sealing surface, keep it bare.
