Thanks to the San Diego British Car Club Council for hosting the Rolling British Car Day! This was an absolute blast. I heard at one point that there were approximately 250 cars there but I am not sure how accurate this count was (it sure seemed that way.) Regardless, I had a great time checking out all the nice cars, getting reacquainted with friends, and making new ones! Although I was slightly hesitant showing up in my new MINI since this is primarily a vintage British event, everybody I spoke to - which is pretty much everybody there at one time or another - was extremely friendly and complimentary. I also made a very, very, very long list of cars I would like to own in the future when time and space permits! It really doesn’t get better than this! Hi Rick,

It was nice meeting you today. Great pictures of a fun event, and good job leading the caravan! I got an email from the organizer, Steve Kirby, who says conservative estimate was 225, possibly as many as 243 not counting the Ferrari and Alfa and a few others. They surpassed their goal of 150 by a big margin! Equally important, the donut count was at least 22 dozen, not counting the freebies Krispy Kreme gave out to those who bought coffee!

My daughter Julia (5&1/2) & I had a great time at RBCD! Got to meet a few old friends as well as a few old on-line ones I'd never seen face to face. The only complaint I had was no facilities at the “Cross” on mount Soledad.

As for the Italian representatives – I think they where more than welcome. I mean after all we did eat Italian for lunch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I can only assume that they are both replicas (kit cars) but I didn't speak with the owners.

2005 RBCD

What a great show. It was definitely worth the drive down from Torrance. My favorite car had to be the Allard, but the V8 MGA sure sounded sweet when it rumbled by. 250 cars and not a single breakdown that I'm aware of. Darn, those british cars are reliable.

OK, to be honest, I did see one car with an apparent overheating problem. But in their defense, it was at a poorly timed left turn light that had us all stuck for 5-10 minutes. I can only imagine how many of us were nervously watching our own temperture gauges rise.

Overall, a fantastic day. Thanks to the San Diego British Car Council for orgainizing such a wonderful event.

Nice photos! Sorry I missed you at the event. Did they announce "farthest distance driven" at the luncheon? Was it you? A friend pointed out I drove 180 miles round trip to go on a 38-mile ride, but as you said, it was definitely worth it!

Loved the pictures. But of course of all the pics the one of the old school Mini (SV400065), is the only one I see my car in is with me & a couple guys from the SDMGC standing around it flapping our gums. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Our first show of the year here in Calgary isn't until this upcoming Sunday Just an all-makes show, but I'm told that the local vintage sports car club hopes to get lots of cars out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif bonus!

And the first British car event of the year is on April 30th, the vintage sports car club's springtime garage tour/cruise through town, looking forward to that one too...

Hopefully my new digital camera will be here by Sunday in time for the show... (Panasonic FZ4 - fresh on the market)
