It's an Austin A90 Atlantic. Engine was used in the Austin-Healey 100 with some modifications.

And ........ drum roll .........that ugly thing is the reason that Austin was so happy that Donald Healey was willing to buy all of those A90 engines.

Yes, and for fear that (we) Americans would find it to be too small, Austin commissioned sales brochure art with tiny people inside to make the car look bigger:

But as a mitigating factor the ‘flying A‘ was pretty cool…

Besides using very tiny people, they also "squashed" it down in the brochure to make it look more streamline.
