Depending on your budget, you're better off getting one of the new dSLR's with video capability, attach a wide range of different lenses and you will get far more bang for your buck... And then when you're finished doing video you have a great unit for still imaages... If you have a good proper camera store in your area go talk to them for more expertise, just remember of course they are trying to make a sale and read between the lines, but then that's always the case...

My vote is for one of these bad boys:

(Actually, I harbor a desire to get one of these things, then walk around some touristy place, say, Disneyland, wearing period correct polyester clothes and a feather cut)

Ho dear.... I have that rig and two Sony Betacams!! Two players on a shelf inna hovel as well.

"Yestertech is out specialty!" :jester:

Yeah, we had one of those at school.

This was my first personal video system. We were getting the MVS systems cheap (something like $250 for the whole system, and it came in a massive box). The 8mm recorder/player was a small module that docked with a base that turned it into a player and VCR, and worked as a 6-track digital audio tape deck (a 2-hour tape would have 6 2-hour tracks on it). To use as a camera you just undocked the recorder and plugged it into the camera unit - or you could tether it and remote-mount the camera.

I had a cigarette-lighter plug for mine and used it as a 12-hour tape player in my car all the time.

Don't joke, I think I have a camera like that in an "ebay" box. Someone has to want it right?
