I'm at Watkins Glen today racing my Spridget. After I came in from my last session (pouring rain) I parked my car in the giant paddock garage.

And I realized the guy with the black Formula Ford near my car was -Peter Egan-

So I just had a great chat with him about British cars. Great guy and neat to talk to. Even if it pours the rest of the weekend, I can say I had a memorable experience.

Are you at the Glen this weekend?! Any way to sneak me through the gates?! hehehehe. I'd live to say "hi" to ya..
Peter Egan?! Had to take a second "Side Glance" to be sure right? hehe. I really like reading his articles. He has a gift of storytelling.

I'm reading Side Glances Vol 1 right now...It's awesome to have all those articles back to back in one book. Highly recommended. Hope you get a pic...

On my list of people that I want to meet.
You seem to be able to meet much more important people than
I do.

Is he finally finished with his E-Type project?!?! :jester:

I took this snap yesterday. Peter is in the center. All three are Formula Ford drivers: The guy on the left is one of the directors of the Pittsburgh Vintage GP (and a fascinating guys....he just returned from a hiking trip in Wales). On the right is the president of Vintage Racer Group, our race club (and also a neat guy.....a former, professional power boat racer).
Didn't talk about the E-type project....I wonder if he still has it? By the way, Burt with the yellow ALFA Spider is here. He's fast.

Neat!

Ask Burt to tell ya about his first Alfa racecar... and why he welded th' doors shut. :jester:

And tell 'im we said "HI!"

Excellent! Peter sold the E-type some time ago, then did a Lotus Elan and I believe sold that as well. From his writing he always sounded like someone I'd like to have a long chat with. We're of different generations but seem to have many of the same likes.

Burt left last night. Car problems. Not sure what happened.

I just said goodbye to Peter. His Formula Ford fried a clutch this morning (but he hung out all day with us....his wife Barb is nice too).

He said he didn't want to try to fix the clutch at the track, and it would be a good Winter project.

I told him, "With <span style="text-decoration: underline">your</span> Winter, you'll have plenty of time!" (<span style="font-style: italic">he lives in Wisconsin</span>)

He laughed and said "Don't remind me!"

Ben: Sorry. I'm just a plieb here and have no power. The gatekeepers at Watkins Glen are like Darth Vader compared to other tracks.....they don't let anyone in unless they're on The List 3 weeks in advance.

He's the main reason for my R&T subscription renewal each year. The guy can write.

No prob Nial. I have a friend that is active with Trackmasters, and he knows most of the gateworkers. We could have weaseled our way in if we tried, but I wound up getting rather busy today. Glad you are having a good time.

Peter stuck around tonight for our cocktail hour and meal, so I got to chat with him some more (mostly about tailwheel aircraft)

He relayed a great story to us about meeting Innes Ireland and his first trip to The Glen. Fun guy!
