I recently learned Peter Cahill has passed away. I first met him when we were on vacation in England and he offered to meet us where we were staying in Ludlow. I didn't realize at the time that this meant a round trip of a couple hundred miles for him. His motivation was simply to meet a fellow car nut and share a pint or two. He also arranged “behind-the-scenes” tours for us at a couple of car museums with staff members he knew. In later years we spoke by phone and corresponded by e-mail frequently. Some of our discussions made it into his columns over the years which was always a thrill for me.

He knew many of the big names in the British car scene and told dozens of fascinating stories about them. His knowledge of automotive history and his experiences were so widespread that I could not begin to do justice writing about them.

But I remember him most as simply a wonderful person with a great enthusiasm for life.

He'll be missed.

Seems like you met a real car guy.... nice article.
Sorry for the loss.

coldplugs, you will always have a very fond memory of this person, in that he will continue to live on, you are then both blessed.

Sounds like a platitude, Ant'ny.

He was one of the motorsport community's most special journalists.

I recall his sporadic contributions to Autoweek back when it was hard to find in th' states.

He will be fondly remember'd.

I was an avid reader of his! Neat that you got to meet, and even neater that he was the kind of car guy that thought nothing of going out of his way to meet with a fellow enthusiast!! Sad to hear of his passing!!
