TR5/TR250 Pertronix vs Crane electronic ign

Country flag
Offline
Today, not watching what I was doing, I fryed the pertronix unit on the 250. I had a spare X700 Crane unit handy so I put it in. It does not fix as nice or as quickly as the Pertronix but when I cranked the car up it ran and idled a lot better than it did with the pertronix unit. I was very surprised, I've been happy with Pertronix in the past but today I'm liking the Crane. Anybody else run into this?

Marvin, funny you should notice that. I have been a fan of Crane, but have installed Pertronix at the owners request a few times. Yes, a bit more fiddly to install, but took care of the worn cam bearing in one TR4A. They both are good as long as they are working, carry a spare points plate, they don't just start to run back, they quit.
