Pertronix problem

I installed a Pertronix unit in my negative ground TR3A this weekend. It is pretty simple install. I did check the wire connections (red to positive, black to negative). When I turned on the key, the white (from ignition) wire to the coil started to fry. Obviously a short. Any suggestions? I thought I would call the company this week and ask them. Model installed is LU142A

Thanks for your help.

Jerry,

Is it possible the red wire got nicked by the rotor inside the distrib and grounding on the base plate?

Apparently this is easily achieved.

I installed a Pertronix in my Healey BJ8 a couple years ago. It initially did great - fired right up and sounded good. However, after about ten minutes failed. Upon very close inspection, noticed a small heat bubble. Supplier replaced with no questions and the replacement has done fine since. Good luck!
