Pertronix Ignition

When you install the Pertronix ignition in place of the points, do you time the car with a static light or do you use a timing light?

Mike, I Prefer the variable timing light for setting the timing as it also allows you to observe the stability of the timing under dynamic conditions. However, just in case you might try, conventional test equipment will not monitor the dwell angle but thats ok --Fwiw---Keoke

With traditional Pertronix you can use either method. New Pertronix II units must be set with a timing light and cannot be static timed. I generally have set the static timing to start the car followed by the more accurate dynamic timing. When static timing Pertronix, do not leave the power on for more than one or two minutes at a time. You can overheat the module which is its main weakness.
