pertronix flame thrower coil

Hi all.....I was just getting ready to change out my old points and coil and put in the Pertronix electronic ignition in my 75 tr6. The coil I ordered is for the later tr6 with the ballast resistor. The original lucas coil is 1.5 ohms. Checked it with an ohm meter. Then I checked the new coil which is marked 1.5 ohm but, I measure .5 ohms with the meter. Is this internally shorted or for some strange reason suppose to measure this. thought maybe somebody else has came across this. I'd call TRF but they closed for the weekend. Have not installed or tried it yet. Thanks for any help
update.....After I got all the new plugs gapped and put in, the the electronic ignition installed, new cap, rotor, wires. I went back and measured the new coil again and now it measures 1.5. I shake it and it does rattle. Sat it down and went off and did something else. came back and now it measure .5 again. I have an old MSD Blaster 2 that also reads .5 but i'm not sure if that even good. Sure would like to try to start this thing this weekend but not risk anything......

Many meters are not capable of measuring very low Ohms accurately or repeatedly. Even a bit of test lead contact resistance can upset things. If in doubt, temporarily put a 10 amp fuse in the coil supply circuit. If it blows, the coil is very low resistance.

I made couple of phone calls to Pertronixs and TRF today. Just for future reference, It is suppose to measure 1.5 ohms and the only thing you should hear is the oil inside, no rattles like the I have. TRF is shipping out a new one today. Hope this might be helpful to somebody down the road.

floyd, glad that you got a new coil coming. It could have gone bad while being shipped. I surely hope TRF didn't put a rattle toy in a box for you to play with...that would not be good business.
