Pertronix back to points

Oh, no worries.....I didn't take it wrong.

Electricity is Black Magic to me.

By the way, BPN is selling a new points distributor for $130

Please see Jeff Schlemmer at Advanced Distributor's website. www.advanceddistributors.com. Jeff has done up about 5 distributors for me, all with the premium points and rotor. I'll never use a Pertronix, the premium points and rotor are totally the way to go (for me at least).

Jeff did his magic on the dizzy in the Tunebug (and that one is running his points as well). That's my plan for the dizzy in the MGB, but it's running fine for now and I've bigger fish to fry -- and I'm out of money for the time being.

I'll be carrying a spare set of points/condenser in the car for the summer. Nice thing is both cars use the same points/condenser so I can stock the same spares for both.

I am looking at this thread and now have a question for those who know such things. I have a positive ground Pertronics electronic distributor. I also have a plate, points and condensor that would fit that distributor (D45?). My car is a Sprite with a 1275.

I want to convert the car to negative ground and use the new alternator that I have onhand.

Can I install the plates, points, condensor and go about converting the car to neg ground?

My thought is that the distributer does not care if it is driving points or electronic pickups. It just rotates. Points (assemblies) can be converted to neg ground.

What do you think? I really appreciate the help!

Yes, you can replace your positive ground Pertronix with points and condenser with no problem.
You may want to reverse the low-voltage connections on the coil as part of your conversion. Not essential, but better.

Points don't care about polarity. Swap the coil leads. If you have an electronic tach you will need to convert it to negative earth.

Can anyone tell me what the little white wire in the electronic distributor is? When putting in points, I am not sure what to do with that one. It looks like a ground wire maybe? Do I keep it?

I've found that, if you buy a spare unit of the same type and keep it in the vehicle, the one you want to replace will never go bad. It's "Murphy's Law"! :driving: :jester: PJ
