Pertronics vs Electronic Distributor

Hi Don,
I just read a previous post you commented on regarding the use of a Pertronix system distributor. I'm currently looking at this option to replace the Lucas ignition (or complete distributor) in my TR8. What advise, if any could you give regarding this, or any other after market ignition system. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Dave

Don, I have three rebuilt distributors, two with points and one with the Pertronix that is in the car right now.

I ran a Luminition on my 4A for quite a while, and was happy with it. It isn't as "stealth" as a Pertronix, as there is a extra box you need to mount.

I do wonder about these "generic" drop in dizzies, what curve do they have, and does it match the original. Of course, I have no idea if the original curve is correct for what we have for gas these days!

I've heard lots of good things about Advance Distributors, I'm planning on having them rebuild the dizzy on my 8:

It needs a new vacuum diaphragm, anyway.

Jeff at Advanced is fantastic - highly recommended.

Forget about Pertronix, forget about Lumenition, forget about electronic distributors.

Use Jeff's rebuild service and a set of premium ignition points and a red rotor and your ignition system is bulletproof. Jeff has dyno tested both electronic systems and points and the points always make more power and no one believes it until they put it in their car.

All you are getting with an electronic ignition system is a constant dwell. Worn advance springs or incorrect advance weights or a worn out distributor aren't fixed by this problem. Forget the cheap Pertronix drop-in distributors or cheap ones you're seeing on ebay, they're all junk and shotty quality.

Do Jeff's service, seriously. It's the best money I've spent on any car I've owned. Jeff has done probably 7 or 8 rebuilds for me now. And no he's not paying me for this.
