Personal Export Delivery Windshield Decal

Hello , I have a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 that is a Personal Export Delivery Vehicle. My original Windshield Decal is faded and parts are hard to read does anyone have a nice photo of one so I can see correct colors and letters , I would like to restore my Decal if possible . Thank you , Jeff

Reid, here is a photo of the windshield decal. It is the only one I have ever seen, and I'm not yet convinced that it was applied to all Personal Export Delivery cars that were taken delivery of there by the original owners and used in the UK before export. The BJ8 Registry currently records 352 cars that were originally Personal Export Delivery, but for many of those I only have the BMIHT data and no record of any owner. For many actual owners recorded, the data is old and contact information may no longer be valid. I'm trying to do a mass-emailing to owners with valid contact information to see if anyone else out there with one of these cars has any remnants of the decal. If I get any positive results, I'll report them to the forum.

Here's a paragraph that might explain the decal:

"An example of a territory which was not party to the treaties permitting free circulation of foreign vehicles, was the TANGIERS international enclave, and to visit Britain after the WW2, this owner was given QC (foreign visitor to Britain) plates to permit his entry. Q-C was allocated to, and handed out by, the the Royal Automobile Association (RAC), as were Q-D and Q-H. The RAC and AA auto clubs assisted travellers with the considerable documentation required for international travel in those times – Motor Insurance, Carnets (partly to prevent the sale of cars in foreign countries), supply of International Ovals (seldom available in the originating countries) and so on." https://blog.europlate.org.uk/category/tangiers-free-zone/

The decal in the picture shows it to be a RAC product so my guess it wasn't something issued to visitors to britain to get registration plates to permit driving around. Perhaps an inquiry to the RAC might be of help. I know that owners of RAC badges have had good results contacting them for information regarding their individual badges.

I think you are probably correct about the decal, HealeyRick. Thanks for the links.

Great information guys , I will contact RAC and also try to get up with original owner , since I purchased Healey from original owner. Thank you again for your time , take care, Jeff
