My father just learned that his current project, a 1939 AC sports tourer, has been invited to this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. He was last at Pebble in 2007 with a 1937 (I think) AC sports tourer. The old man has shown a lot of ACs at Pebble Beach over the years, and indeed, has previously won the Beaulieu Trophy (most elegant British car on the field) for a '29 AC tourer, and took a second in class for his restoration of a 1936 AC 16/80 sports. Go Dad! Woohoo!!!

Wow! got any pics?

Hi Mark -- I don't have any shots of the current car, but I'll dig up some photos of the other cars. Pretty neat beasts.

Where in VT are you located? I grew up in Waitsfield.

i live just south of Rutland- quiet little town of Wallingford. I work over in WRJ. Sounds like the same stoppin grounds

It sounds like your father is an accomplished restorer.

I was able to attend Pebble Beach in 1990. That was an AMAZING experience. The cars were simply mind blowing. Ralph Lauren was in attendance with his freshly restored Bugatti Atalante. His yacht was anchored in the bay in front of the judging stand. I over heard a conversation I will never forget also: "I went to the Rolls Royce dealer to buy a new one. I was so impressed with the car and the dealership, I bought the dealership." Believe me, he wasn't kidding. Pebble Beach Concours should be on everyone's bucket list!

Yes, I have to admit that it's quite an experience. We go, of course, because Dad's a restorer. Can't say that we're in the market for a Rolls or a dealership!

But man, there are certainly some beautiful automobile designs out there. When I went a couple of years ago, they had a gathering of Duesenberg boat-tail speedsters. My father's true passion is pre-war classics, so I grew up around his Packard, but seeing four or five Duesie boat-tails in one spot is not only amazing, it's rather overwhelming. A bit of sensory overload. And it's also a bit humbling to see how the other half (or should I say half of one percent) really lives!

Very cool. Can't wait to see some photos!
