Is it just me or has Paypal gone up on their charges? Just had $121.00 sent to me & they charged me $3.81. seems higher than normal...

That's about 3%. NOt sure what it has been, haven't paid that close attention.

I can't remember either, Tony, but the rates for we that don't do much business are around 3% now. Getting pricey, but aren't very many better options that I've found that are in such wide use.

$866.00 was $25.41! Man, its eating any profit I ever thought of making!

& trying to find the answer to amount of charges is almost impossible on their website!

Tony,

That comes out to 2.9% + .30

Here's some links if you haven't already found them ...

Add a 4% charge for the "convenience" of Paypal. I just ordered some used Etype bits from a vendor I know, and he charged me a buck extra on a 35.00 bill for paypal fees OK with me.

I've got a Premier/Business account.....Up 'til now, I've just eaten the PayPal charges not passed them on...gotta look at it more closely...

When I refunded people for the T-Shirts (before I finally got them), I refunded folks their original cost PLUS the PayPal fee so they would end up with close to what they had actually spent on the shirts originally - that little fiasco cost me!

I just realized this myself recently. They kinda got us by the you know what unless there is another service like this out there.

There are very few "free rides" anymore. The 3% that PayPal charges is not too far out of line compared to what the banks charge for processing VISA/MC/Discover. (Of course, this is dependant upon the volume that the business does.)

While I have yet to be taken advantage of when a customer pays me by check, should the day come that I have a check go south, it would certainly cost me more than the PayPal fees if it were to go non-collectable.

FWIW - YOMV

I have never used a ATM so I avoid that rip off.

I try to avoid it, but every now and then I find myself in a pinch and find I need to use one - usually a result of poor planning on my part.

Just add tha PayPal fee like you do the shipping.

It's the same with Visa, MC, Amex, etc. you should pass the fees on, or raise your prices. It's capitalism.

I wonder... does PayPal charge differently if the customer uses a credit card rather than a direct transfer?

No -- once your account is set up to be able to receive credit cards, then all money you receive is charged the fee, regardless of source.

I switched to Paypal because, at the time, it was less expensive than accepting credit cards direct...the only time I'm not charged is when I buy something with my Paypal or have money transferred to my checking account.

yeah they charge my kid a dollar or maybe more when I use a charge card to send her money. I don't know if they charge her when I just have it taken out of my checking account. But it's still cheaper and quicker than Western Union.

Roll it into add-on "shipping/handling".

...I pay by check. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
