I'm a new member of the Forum. I just attempted entering an ad for an MGC Factory Manual in the classified section, only to find that PayPal is the only option for payment. I will not use PayPal under any circumstances. Is there possibly another alternative, such as pre-payment by Bank check?

Ogtree, I'm curious as to what your reasons are for refusing to use paypal. I have heard of people having trouble with them prior to Ebay buying them, but haven't heard anything negative since the buyout. Do you have information that they are not dealing fairly with people?

I, for one, have used PayPal for the last 5 years. Never a problem and over 500 transactions.
Give it a try.

Same here, it's very convenient. However I recommend never giving bank account info to anyone, including PayPal. I just have a credit card on file with them.

Hi Ogtree, I would go back and look at the listers payment instructions carefully I think they allowed some options. Actually if its the one I saw its a PDF file and all you need to do is print it out.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with Paypal. I had $997.00 stolen from my bank account due to a fraudulent paypal transaction. Based upon Paypal's push to add my bank account so that I would be 'verified', my bank account was set as the primary source of funds. I did not have any issue for over a year in using my bank account as the funding source.

The fraudulent transaction was entered hours after a legitimate purchase that I made.

When I had been reviewing my bank statement, I noticed the problem and contacted Paypal customer service immediately. They looked at my account and immediately identified the questionable transaction as fraud. They emailed me an afidavit that I sent back to them and they said that I could use it as proof of the fraudulent transaction in case any checks bounced, etc. They told me they would take the investigation from there and I would be creditied the full amount in 10 days. It did take the full 10 days for the redeposit.

Paypal also reset and changed my passwords and security questions and placed my account on surveillance for a period of time. There have not been any other issues.

The agent I spoke with said that the most common cause of this type of situation is that people respond to the "phishing" emails that are described in this thread. I am positive that I have never answered any of these as I always ignore emails that ask for login or account info.

I was pretty concerned about the situation and immediately removed my bank account as a source of funds. I do still use Paypal - but only with a credit card with a small credit limit. The whole experience was a little freaky!

That is a little scary Bob, but glad to hear they worked with you to resolve the problem. Not that this is what your problem was, but I have had tons of phishing emails from so-called "PayPal" and EBay "authorities" asking me to verify this or that. Sounds like somehow, someone got ahold of your account login info. Did they ever track down the culprits? (The money had to be spent somewhere and also they would have left tracks (IP address).

Basil

(For the record, I've been a verified PayPaler for over 5 years and never had so much as a burp - but I know it is always possible (just like when you hand a credit card to a waitress or waiter at a restaurant and they "swip" the info from your car.)

Basil,

When I asked Paypal how it could have happened, they said it could have been phishing, but I know for sure that I have never responded to any paypal email. In my case, the fraudulent transaction occurred just 5 minutes after I finished a legitimate transaction for MGB parts.

When you sign the afidavit to get your money back, you give away all rights to learn about Paypal's investigation.
