Just saw the tail end of a Pawn Stars re-run. They apparently bought a sprite for $5k and their car guy wants $6k to rebuild the engine???. Was there a followup to this episode?

Edit: Looked it up on youtube - Season 2 Episode 27. Checked later episodes, don't think it was ever brought up again.

I don't think there was any follow up......if memory serves me, they didn't buy the car, but I can't remember.

No, the guy came in asking $10K and Rick offered $5K.
The guy took the money and ran, then they found it had a blown motor and were all gloomy about it.
Buying a Sprite that you couldn't drive for $5K ??? - wasn't even a Bugeye!
But the show is all rigged so you never know what's real and what's not.

LOL, and no follow up? That doesn't sound rigged rather buried. :highly_amused:

I only mean "rigged" in that they put stuff on the show for the pizzaz factor and not everything you see is necessarily "true" in that it happens just the way you see it go down on TV.
Rigged like the way Professional Wrestling on TV is rigged, not rigged like the way Elections may be...

Rick, are you saying wrasslin is rigged? OMG, my world is crashing down on me!

Nah...
All I'm saying is both of them are shows, they have production values, they have scripts, they have sponsors, they need to entertain the audience.

The actual place in Vegas is nearly impossible to visit, there's a line of people going around the block all the time due to the popularity of the show. They can afford to pick and choose what they use on TV and present it in the way they feel is best for the show.

I don't believe any of it is true. I know a few folks that have done shows like that and none of it is true. I know a guy who did Junkyard Wars who said the yard was seeded with what they needed. That show amoung others has the same problem, none of it is real.

Now Honey BooBoo....I'm afraid I can't handle the truth...

My mistake......it's been awhile since I've seen that particular episode. I thought they passed on it after finding out what an engine would (allegedly) cost them.

I visited their pawn shop a few years ago.....even though the show had been on for a year or two there was no issues with getting inside and looking around. It was surprisingly tiny inside......the editing and camera work on the show make it look bigger than it is. I believe they have since acquired the space next door and expanded things, but I have not been back since that happened. I was in Vegas about 2 weeks ago and wanted to stop by, but they had the street closed due to a 5K race or some sort (breast cancer, I think). I hear the lines to get in are crazy long now.

As for the show.....even though it isn't necessarily true life, I still enjoy it. It's neat to see some of the old historical stuff, even if the negotiations are a little unbelievable. Example: guy: "I need $5000 for my old widget" Rick: "I'll give you $800" guy: "make it $850 and you've got a deal" Rick: "go write him up Chum".

What's really funny is due to privacy laws the main guys aren't allowed to work there anymore. They had gotten so popular that people were snapping pictures of them inside the pawn shop while they were working, which is in violation of privacy laws since people going in there for a loan no longer have the anonymity that they should have.

I remember watching Junkyard Wars and thinking how cool the show would be only to be disappointed by stuff that was obviously seeded in the yard.

I was a HUGE fan at a time when I really needed something to take my mind off of things. First time I saw it there was a marathon of episodes. I literally watched it all day, about 12 or 13 hours. I thought it was the coolest show in the world....then I talked to ol' boy... I was really bummed out. The premise behind the show is how I build just about every vehicle I've owned not to mention how I do most of my artwork.

If you refer to the period where it was hosted by Robert Llewellyn (Kryten on Red Dwarf) then I heartily agree, I watched that and greatly enjoyed it.
When it was hosted by others I didn't like it nearly as much.

I dunno from when. All I can tell you is it was pre Kelly so that would be at least 10 years ago and they were shot before then. Never watched Red Dwarf. Crazy ex had a friend's husband who was really into it. Everytime we went over that's all he wanted to do.

Well I can see why that might taint it for you.
That being said, and acknowledging that it's a stupid stupid show, I love it.
I find it genuinely funny and can watch episodes over and over.
Guess everyone has a strange and quirky side and that's mine - could be worse!
