Parts???

Roger,

Yes Sue Miller does sell the fiberglass dash pad for S3 and S4's and I think their was one for the S1 and S2's as well for awhile. I know Dave Bean sold them. I personally never saw one, but heard they were expensive for what you got, and required alot of fiddling to fit right. If the price is right it's certainly better than nothing. I know the 26 Registry was taking deposits for pads, but unless they recieved enough orders it wasn't going to happen. Although Elan parts can be had if you look hard enough and many parts are reproduced, it would be nice if some of the hard to get parts were made available like for other British cars. Even if those parts aren't available, if you have your car driveable that's where the fun is.

I think most Elan owners would like to have a restored car, but unless you've owned one for a long time or were a parts horder your going to have a tuff time finding some of the parts. In all honesty I will probably not live long enough to restore my Elan, but I'll just keep looking for those parts I need and stash them away or add them to the car as I drive it.

Speaking of driving, I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't driven my car this year yet. I needed a new gas tank and decided on an Aluminum. It's been back forth to the person I bought it from twice now. Still waiting for it to return, so I can install it. It was a bad purchase but I'll make the best of it. Even if I get in next week I won't drive my car until sometime around the end of June because I'll be out of town. Very frustrating because the weather is so neice right now.

Havn't went looking but would the fiberglass glove box surround for a S1 be available?? I was in the fiberglass business when in my early 20's. If fiberglass parts are too high maybe ought to do it again. May have to make some one off ones as is.

Kurt.

Thanks Roger, looks like I will be going with the one piece dash.

Thanks Russ.
When they say limited quantity I wonder how limited they mean. Busy on other things right now.

Not sure about the quantity but the timing is all wrong for me as well. Price would be $500 plus shipping. I just had mine redone (not perfect) but will do the job for many years.

Yes, I haven't got around to taking the naugahide off the dash I've got to see if $500 is justified. Have sourced all the guages for under $500 though and picked up an Elan nose badge. Had to pass on the original horn push for over a hundred.
Keeping my eyes open for what shows up on flea-bay before making final finish decisions.

I don't know if anyone noticed the Elan choke cable and heater cable on eBay without housings. I was goint to try and buy them but the cables are at $50 and $102 right now and I can't justify that. Yes they are extremely rare and they are original but at some point I'm sure reproductions will be available. Nothing against reproductions because they are ussually quite nice, and more reasonably priced but they are reproductions and it just seems like cheating. Hope someone here can win them if they need them.

Thanks for the heads up but I've got them on my watch list. I, like you, expect them to go higher and have already sourced Triumph cables which I think will work. I see these are probably unobtanium but the rest of my car dosen't justify them.
