My Brake light switch died this week after only 65 years. Can't figure out why they can't make parts to last anymore.

About two weeks ago I replaced the rear shock on my 1963 Lambretta. It lasted 57 years... I was hoping for it to last 60 years :rolleye:

There was a thread years ago where by switching to dot 5 would cause the older brake light switches to fail, so I guess you might be culpable.

Funny thing about parts why do they fail when you do not use them that much. Lights only on at night ( LUCAS ) I have a 1973 TR 6 I did a ground up restoration in 1992-93, the starter work and I never touch it just put it back in the car. I mean how many time did it get run? in June this year it went south with a dead com. 1973 my kids are that old and work fine. Just saying Madflyer

I think it’s tied to the heater

False alarm. It turns out the screw connector came loose. So 65 years and the brake switch is still going strong...and on DOT5 fluid to boot!

I bought a replacement and an extra, so now I have enough brake switches to last at least 130 years.
